MICHELLE FELIX
Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, 1992

After completing her studies in Contemporary Dance in Sinaloa, Mexico, Michelle Félix moved to Berlin in 2015 to continue her artistic and professional development. The migration process led her to approach the indigenous dances of her home state, Sinaloa. Her research into the social and performative aspects of the Deer Dance from the Mayo-Yoreme culture has resulted in several interdisciplinary projects that define her artistic output.

In 2020, Félix created her first solo work, "Juya Ania", with financial support from the Berlin Senate. The sound work caught the attention of the experimental radio station Cashmere Radio, leading to a collaborative adaptation for radio broadcast in 2022. In 2023, "Juya Ania" was showcased in Mexico at the José Limón Festival and in Germany at the Performing Arts Festival, the Academy of the Arts, and Tanz im August.

Beyond her personal projects, Michelle Félix has worked as an independent dancer with various artists and companies, including Jam Skate Club, Aerial Dance Berlin, SR & Company, Animi Motus in Germany, and Danza Joven de Sinaloa in Mexico.

She was selected for artist residencies in Shandong, China, in 2017 and 2018, where she participated in the Artist Residency on Daqingshan/China program, collaborating with international artists and training in the Tai Chi Chuan Practical Method.

As an educator, Félix is involved with Haus der Kulturen Lateinamerikas e.V., where she leads intercultural projects in kindergartens and primary schools in Berlin. This pedagogical work complements her efforts to promote the culture of the indigenous peoples of Sinaloa.

To enhance her outreach work, Michelle Félix founded the Vivajaqui Project in 2022 to connect contemporary artists, traditional dancers and craftsmen from the Mayo-Yoreme community. The goal of the project is to offer an approach to traditions through various artistic expressions. In 2023, the Goethe-Institut Berlin funded a field research on Eastern processions at the Tehueco Ceremonial Center in Sinaloa. The result of this documentation was exhibited during the final presentation of "Juya Ania" at the Mexican Embassy in Germany in December 2023.
